    I think there could be a role for utility companies.

    What if people don’t own autonomous electric cars, instead some company like Uber or Hertz does? Then the cars can drop off their passengers at home, drive empty to a charging station run by the local electric utility company, and charge themselves there.

    Or what if you could tell your i3 to drive to the local power company’s substation and charge itself there overnight? The utility company might give you a discount for doing that, so that it wouldn’t have to increase the electrical capacity at your house?
